Hypertension Mean Arterial Pressure

Reducing systemic arterial pressure or increasing intracranial pressure reduces perfusion pressure to dangerous levels. The first (systolic) number represents the pressure in blood vessels when the heart contracts or beats. Having blood pressure measures consistently above normal may result in a diagnosis of high blood pressure (or hypertension).
