India Nepal Map Issue

Both india and nepal lay claim to kalapani. As per kathmandu’s understanding, the river originates from limpiyadhura. Nepal’s new political map was unveiled six months after india released its own political map, placing kalapani within its borders.

Nepal protested immediately and drew attention to the issue. India will need to tread carefully. Days after it published map showing kalapani, limpiyadhura and lipulekh areas in uttarakhand as its own, a sense is growing in nepal that separate cartographical publications would not resolve the border issues with india.

Nepal's parliament is expected this week to formally approve a revised map of the country, including three areas it disputes with its giant neighbour india. Oli said in parliament that he was going to retrieve the land. Nepal had also expressed displeasure on the 2015 agreement between india and china for using the lipulekh pass for trade, without consulting nepal. India wednesday sharply reacted to nepal’s new official map that includes disputed territories, saying “such artificial enlargement of territorial claims will not be accepted”.
